The AYLUS Dix Hills members work with HHH Library to celebrate the efforts of veterans on May 13, 2023. During this event, volunteers played an important role of emphasizing the meaning of this event by passing out brochures and explaining various parts of the event. For example, display of veteran uniforms, badges, medals, and antique machinery from the WW1, WW2, Vietnam War, and Desert Storm paid homage to the veterans. Attendees were able to learn more intricate aspects of civil duty and military life through volunteer explanations. Furthermore, AYLUS Dix Hills were thanked and acknowledged for their efforts in creating homemade gifts for each veteran (an event that we did previously).

Long Island has one of the highest percentages of veterans, and it’s important to honor their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice to the country. Although Long Island has be 1 out of 83 communities to eliminate veteran homelessness, an active effort must be continually pursued to upkeep this. The lasting impart of war on human consciousness and the lack of resources some veterans have is the reason why this ceremony to let our community be supportive to allow for the process of healing and to show them the resources veterans can utilize.
