Fairfax Branch Volunteers to Help Package Food at Food for Others in Virginia on August 18th, 2022

Hi all,

On August 18th, 2022, members of the Fairfax ALYUS branch arrived at a local food bank, Food for others, to help sort out produce that was to be distributed at over 10 sites around the community. Before volunteering, members were given a brief overview into how food banks like Food for Others operate on both a regional and national scale through working with local volunteers, truck drivers, and the USDA. After that, instructions were given to the volunteers and branch members proceeded to sort a variety of produce into red mesh bags which were placed into shipping containers and boxes. As branch members were working, other local volunteers joined us. It is always nice to work as a team with your community. The Fairfax ALYUS branch will most definitely come back to volunteer at Food for Others. It was an eye-opening experience for many members. Thank you to Food for Others for allowing us to volunteer with them and thank you to all members who participated in this event.

Best, Jordan
