The AYLUS Dix Hills Branch works at the Cold Spring Harbor New York State park to remove trash from the environment on February 20, 2023. volunteers were able to remove plastic water, bottles, plastic labels, plastic caps, glass, alcoholic bottles, masks, gloves, plastic candy, wrapper, plastic bags, dog feces contained in plastic bags, and other small, miscellaneous items.

AYLUS Dix Hills members walked 3.5 km across this hiking trail to find all of these items. These items in particular are detrimental to the environment as they are non-perishable. This means after 10+ years it is more than likely not able to degrade. This causes harm to the environment as some species may mistake these items for food. Furthermore, these items do not contribute to the ecosystem’s nutrition, only acting as waste.

We collected 4 trash bags worth of trash! AYLUS Dix Hills hopes to continue making a positive impact on the community’s parks, as well as the environment.

Volunteers: Ru Xue Jiang (2 hours), Sara Kong (1 hour and 30 minutes), Bryan Fan (1 hour and 30 minutes), Jonathan Fan (1 hour and 30 minutes), and Ming Chen (1 hour and 30 minutes).
