On Saturday, August 15th, from 3:45 – 5:00 PM, members of the Great Neck AYLUS branch hosted an event for kids at the Great Neck Main Library. The activities that were held at this event included story reading and arts & crafts such as origami, crochet, and sand art. Stories were read by three volunteers, where Andrew read “WE ARE GOLDEN”, Nathan read “Queen of Physics”, and JiangYuan read “Malala’s Magic Pencil”. After reading, Rainie and Victoria taught kids how to crochet and Amber taught the kids how to make sand art. Andrew, Austin, and Nathan taught the kids how to make things out of origami paper and Rebecca, Chloe, and JiangYuan helped the kids out with crafts. On this day, the Library gave the volunteers their first ever library “VOLUNTEER” badges! Normally, the event uses 3-4 tables for arts and crafts, however, it was required that we pull out another table, due to the increasing number of children. We thank those who attended and look forward to the next event.
