AYLUS Members Volunteer at TJHSST PTSA Welcome Party
On August 15, two AYLUS members volunteered at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) PTSA Welcome Party from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. As experienced TJ students, they volunteered to share their personal experiences and provide guidance to incoming and new students and their families.
During the event, the two AYLUS members introduced themselves and talked about their experiences at TJ, including academics, extracurricular activities, student life, and how they adapted to the challenging and fast-paced school environment. They also answered questions from students and parents, offering practical advice based on their own experiences.
This volunteer activity was meaningful because it allowed experienced students to give back to the TJ community and help new students feel more comfortable and prepared as they begin their journey at TJ. By openly sharing both their successes and challenges, the AYLUS members helped families better understand what to expect and encouraged new students to become involved in school activities and take advantage of the opportunities available to them.
The event also demonstrated AYLUS’s commitment to peer support, community service, leadership, and giving back to the community. Through volunteering and sharing their knowledge, the students served as positive role models while helping build a welcoming and supportive TJ community.
