AYLUS Great Neck volunteers to teach elementary school students Chinese on 2/5 2023

On 2/5 from 1:30-5:00, Great Neck assisted teachers at the school of the Chinese cultural association of Long Island.

Today is the lantern festival, so in the middle of the class we went to another classroom to guess lantern riddles which is so much fun. All the kids played well and learned many new Chinese words while guessing the lantern riddles. There will be coupons every time you answer correctly, which also strengthens the interest of the children(Coupons can be exchanged for snacks).

When we went back to the classroom, we started to go over the vocabulary that we learned before, also doing the matching words worksheets. In the process of doing worksheets, children can also remember more firmly. Helping children is not an easy task, so we need to pay attention to all kids, and also behave nicely and respectfully to each of them. At the same time, we also need to help them unpack snacks, take them to the restroom, etc.

At 4:00-5:00, we advanced onto a cultural hour. In calligraphy, we are doing a rabbit lantern today. Before I got the lantern, I thought it was a very simple craft, but I didn’t realize it was so difficult until I started making it! But after a long time of hard work, I still helped the children make a lantern perfectly, which also gave me a sense of accomplishment.

Members who participated include:
I-Han Liao(3.5 hours), Fanxi Xia(3.5 hours), Joyce Zhang(3.5hours), Tsz Ching Chu (3.5 hours)
