East Cobb Branch Holds English Tutoring Session VII On the week of 6/29, 2020

On June 30th, Jay Pan from the East Cobb Branch participated in the English Tutoring Program and tutored for 1 hour.

This program’s goal is to provide English guidance to the elderly who do not know much English. Volunteers are needed for 1 on 1 tutoring sessions. By helping these elderly improve their English, the goal is to make communication smoother and life easier for them.

Since the elder was having trouble with her WeChat, the tutoring was done over the phone. Over the past week, the elder collected unknown sentences and words to her from listening to a variety of different media, and Jay helped her understand and pronounce all of them. The session ran smoothly with no difficulties, but the woman was unable to meet the coming session which was on July 2nd.

The session was great for both the teacher and student because both people learned something new. The woman was able to learn English and also teach Jay some Chinese at the same time. Jay would be happy when the woman understood a certain word or phrase, and she would be happy too. Nothing went wrong during the session, but using a different platform besides the phone like Zoom could help the learning experience more.
