Fairfax Branch – Saving the Ecosystem

On the 16th of April, 2018 the Fairfax Aylus Branch helped out at Riverbend Park.

Evidence of two kinds of invasive species, specifically lesser celadine and a kind of Berberis were found and needed to be removed before it spread too much. As such, the Fairfax AYLUS Branch showed up to aid Riverbend Park in the removal of these two invasive species. It was long arduous work as it was both chilly and raining, but we got a great deal of work done, accumulating more than ten trash bags of invasive plants. Fairfax Branch members used large fiskars and large shovels to dig up the plants from the roots in order to prevent them from growing again.

From Riverbend Park,

“It was great meeting everyone today. You’re very welcome and I’m sure the native plants and animals are happier thanks to you guys! You guys did a great job and took on some tough work, but it made a difference here so thank you all.
Thank you AYLUS!!”

Thanks to all the members who participated: George Cao, Steven Guo, Richard Zhan, Anna Xu, Sidney Wu, Kaiden Wu, Jordan Wang, Anthony Wang, Cynthia Hu
