During the week of July 22nd, members of East Cobb Branch participated in the YMCA Lunch Packing Program.
The program’s goal is to serve over 300 children each day over school breaks. It needs many volunteers to help deliver and serve lunches to local kids. These children may not be able to have a healthy meal when school is out. The program also inspires volunteers to communicate with the children.
On July 22, Gary, Brian, Jack, Nicholas, and Kevin went to Northeast Cobb YMCA and packed and delivered about 25 lunches for two and a half hours. Some children came to pick up the lunches.
On Wednesday, July 24, Nicolas went to Dwell Apartment and packed and delivered around 10 lunches. Very few people came to pick up the lunches.
On July 25, Gary, Brian, Jack, and Kevin went to Northeast Cobb YMCA and packed and delivered about 25 lunches for two and a half hours. A few children came to pick up the lunches.
On July 26, David went to Dwell Apartment and packed and delivered about 10 lunches for two and a half hours. Few kids came to pick up the lunches.
Our members participated in the whole process of the program by packing well-balanced, child-friendly meals, and drinks into a lunch bag, and delivering them to those children.
In the beginning, the children were wary of our members, but near the end, they warmed up and were talking and interacting cheerfully with the students.
Attendance: Gary Mei (5 hours), Jack Xu (5 hours), Brian Kuang (5 hours), Kevin Shen (5 hours), Nicholas Zhang (5 hours) and David Qu (2.5 hours)
