Phoenix Branch Packed Food at “Feed My Starving Children” on July 27th, 2019

On July 27, 2019 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm (2 hours), the Phoenix Branch volunteered at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), a non-profit organization that strives to turn hunger into hope and eliminate child starvation. One of the primary ways that FMSC helps eliminate child starvation is through food packing activities done by volunteers.

Katherine Wei, Marina Hu, Michelle Yu, and Saahithi Punnam as well as some of our junior AYLUS members, Ethan Wei, Audrey Zhang, Brian Qian, Emily Zeng, and Claire Shi participated in this event. Throughout the two hour session, volunteers helped hand-pack meals that consisted of rice, soy, veggies, and a complete blend of vitamins and minerals. After the bags were filled with the ingredients, volunteers sealed them and packed 36 bags into each box.

After the two hour session, we helped pack 110 boxes, which is equivalent to 40,176 meals. The amount packed would be able to feed 110 kids for an entire year.
