On July 1st, East Cobb Young Musicians went to 2 local senior centers and performed for TWO hours of music for senior residents. The performance was a huge success and students did an outstanding job at Sterling Senior Living, and Arbor Terrace Senior Living.
The musicians there, were a variety of musicians, from trumpeters to violinists to pianists to clarinetists. They had all worked diligently at home or practiced with others.
At Sterling, the place was new to some Young Musicians, but that did not stop them from performing. Once they came into the building, they took in their surroundings and quickly got used to them. They were performers after all. Performers entertained the people around them, no matter where they were.
That day, there were not as many people as Young Musicians expected to see at Sterling, but that did not repress their spirits. On the contrary, this gave them a boost of energy, for they had to give their best impressions on these seniors. This way, the next time the Musicians would come through, the good word of their amazing talents would have already spread through and reached all the ears around, young and old alike, like forest fire.
Arbor Terrace was greatly anticipating the Young Musicians and had just finished another guitar music performance. During an ice cream break, 2 musicians warmed up and kept the seniors entertained. Soon the performance was over and they loved it.
There was a new performer there that day. Her name was called Amy. She had friends in the Young Musicians, and when they invited her to join them, she gladly accepted, becoming the newest member of the branch. She liked volunteering with the branch so much that she even came back and volunteered again on July the 4th for 3 hours! Phenomenal!
While most of the performances were solos, the only quartet there that day was made up of Katherine (clarinet), Amy (clarinet), Selina (piano), and Susanna (violin). Before the performance, these four met up together almost every Saturday, practicing and practicing for hours, perfecting what could be perfected in their piece. While being serious in practicing, they also had fun learning from each other, learning how to balance the melodies and harmonies, and how dynamics can make such drastic changes to the emotions in the piece.
With the East Cobb Branch, these kids are getting together, getting to know each other better, and creating deeper friendships than they ever had before. The cooperation between the children, the interactions, all count towards, helping each other and supporting each other. The trust that is created within all of this makes Young Musicians worth the time.
