Members of AYLUS Syosset gathered at Deer Park’s Shoprite to greet costumers with the opportunity to donate non-perishable food items to underprivileged people and families on Long Island. AYLUS worked with Long Island Cares, also known as the Harry Chapin Food Bank. According to feedingamerica.org, LI Cares donates roughly 12 million pounds of food to people facing hunger each year in Nassau and Suffolk County.
Members stood outside the store’s entrances and handed out flyers detailing the most-wanted food items that are wanted. They gave out information about the food drive and thanked costumers for their consideration. Many costumers donated canned goods, cereals, box mixes, pasta, peanut butter and toiletries which members helped to sort. Members thanked each costumer who gave food and donated money to the charity.
