On August 10th, Murrieta AYLUS members went to a local food bank to help.
After members checked in, members began by getting bakery boxes from the fridge, and then sorting it onto the racks. They put specialty breads, like croissants, on the top rack, along with breakfast breads. The middle rack was for sliced bread and the last rack was for all kinds of different bread rolls. Then the desserts would go on a separate rack. When they finished off the cart, members went back for more boxes. Members repeated the process for a couple times since there were so many boxes. After, while members waited for more produce to come in, members went to the dry foods area and helped there. They sorted foods into their corresponding bin. When more produce came in on the fresh produce side, members went back and started to help organize the foods. Then, they helped make week-food boxes. After a couple rounds, members were told to go put out more bread. So members split up, while one person stayed with helping make food boxes, the other members went to go put out more bread. After a while, members started cleaning up in the fresh produce area before going to the dry foods area to help clean up there. Since school would be starting very soon and members would be unable to return during the week to help out, other volunteers there expressed their gratitude for the help members’ have provided before saying goodbye.
