Great Neck Branch Volunteered at Bethpage State Park (12/9/2023)

This week, the AYLUS Great Neck Branch teamed up with Bethpage State Park to get rid of invasive species such as the bittersweet vines, honeysuckle vines, and porcelain berry vines. Our volunteers used a variety of shears, handsaws, and shovels to dig up roots, and cut off vines. The vines often blend in with the native plants, making it a bit of a difficult process, but once you know what you’re looking for, the process is much easier. They got rid of many vines this way, leaving the ecosystem much healthier and the park much cleaner. The volunteers worked diligently from 9:30 am to 12:00 am, clearing many invasive species in the process.
Volunteers: Serena Chen (2.5 hours), Zoe Xia (2.5 hours)
