Great Neck Branch Volunteered at Bethpage State Park on 11/18/2023

The AYLUS Great Neck Branch partnered with Bethpage State Park to replant several beneficial plants, as a continuation after last week’s work in getting rid of invasive species. Several volunteers used medium-length shovels to dig holes in the cleared out soil, marking around a 5 by 60 area for holes on both sides of the strip of land. The remaining volunteers would then plant several different species of helpful plants in the holes, and ended up planting over 600 of them in total. This would roughly fill around half the space cleared from last week’s work, and the plants are still growing, set to bloom next Spring, so make sure you go see them then! Volunteers worked from 9:30 to 12:00 to help start off the replanting process in the cleared out section, and ensured that invasive species didn’t take over the land freshly cured from their presence.

Volunteers: Bryan Fan (3 hours), Zoe Xia (2.5 hours), Feier Xu (2.5 hours), and Jonathan Fan (2.5 hours).
