AYLUS Roslyn helps out at a School of CCA of Long island (32nd) on November 12th, 2023

On November 12th of 2023, The Roslyn AYLUS branch helped out The Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island from 1:30 to 5:00 PM.

The volunteers helped out as TAs (teacher assistants) who were assigned to help teachers with the students. Our job was to keep the students on task, keep them safe, and help them with what they needed. We brought the kids to the bathroom and watched over them when they were buying snacks. If the students were distracted, we would encourage them to stay on task and focus. We made sure they followed the rules and that they were staying safe inside the classroom. If they needed help, we would assist them with their Chinese work. Many students are still in the learning process of reading out loud and writing Chinese so we would help improve their skills.

The students had a chance to participate in a one-hour cultural class that lasted from 4 pm to 5 pm. They were able to participate in classes such as art, calligraphy, and martial arts. The students were able to learn about Chinese culture and have fun doing so. We didn’t just watch – we helped out and had fun with the kids.

Our goal is to create a better community and positive environment for the students. It is a rewarding experience that leaves a positive impact on younger kids.
