AYLUS Dix Hills Branch Volunteers at Manorhaven Park for Beach Cleanup

A group of volunteers came together at Manorhaven Park on 8/12/23 for a day of environmental stewardship. The event was a clean up of the beach and surrounding areas, including the grassy areas and the lake, and involved kayaking to collect trash from the water. The efforts of the participants resulted in the successful removal of over 100 pounds of litter from the park and its shoreline.

The event started with a brief orientation and safety briefing, where volunteers were given a summary of the cleanup process and the importance of their contribution to preserving the natural beauty of the park. Participants were then divided into teams, each assigned to a specific section of the park.

Volunteers searched the sandy shores of Manorhaven Park, picking up a wide array of debris, including plastic bottles, cigarette butts, food wrappers, and more. The collective effort yielded a significant reduction in visible litter along the beach, enhancing its aesthetics and environmental health.

In addition to the beach, volunteers extended their efforts to the grassy areas within the park. This comprehensive approach aimed to prevent litter from going into water bodies and contributed to the overall cleanliness of the park.

A highlight of the event was the kayaking component, where a group of volunteers embarked on kayaks onto the water. Armed with nets and gloves, they carefully collected floating debris and trash from the water’s surface. This innovative approach allowed for the removal of items that might otherwise have been challenging to reach from the shoreline.

The volunteer event at Manorhaven Park showcased community engagement and environmental stewardship. Through a combination of beach and grass cleanup, as well as innovative kayaking trash collection, participants made an impact on the beauty of the park and its surrounding waters.
