Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Food Bank ( 25th) ( 8/03/2023)

Reported by Jessica Lu

On August 3rd, 2023, Murrieta AYLUS members volunteered at their local food bank. Members started by checking in, and then started to pack food boxes. These big food boxes would last the family a whole week. In the box, members put two meats, one chicken one beef, a box of fruits, some veggies, a deli box, some extra specialty foods if there were any, some fresh produce like lemons, corn, apples, etc. Then from the bread section, members would put one breakfast bread, like bagels, one sliced bread, one roll, and if there were any extras like boxes of croissants, members would include one of those too. Lastly, members would include two desserts in the box. Members worked so efficiently that they had to put some carts into the refrigerator while the other people disturbed the other boxes. When they were waiting for more carts to open up to make more boxes, members went to go pack more meats. Members put one chicken and one beef in each bag before putting them back in the box to be used for the food boxes. After several more carts, members took a break and got some sweet treats! Then they resumed the process again until it was time to clean up. Members mopped the floor, took out the trash and replaced the trashcan with clean bags, and put away the food that was out into the freezer. Then, members said goodbye and will come back next week.
