AYLUS Roslyn Branch participates in the Be a Good Egg program to protect endangered birds.
AYLUS Roslyn branch partners with Audubon New York to educate people about the importance of protecting endangered birds. On Saturday June 24th, volunteers Angeline Li, Mingyao Xu, and Christopher Zhu arrived to Stelhi beach from 9 am to 2 pm to help collect signatures, pledging to respect the endangered birds’ hatching grounds. Despite the unfavorable weather of scattered thunderstorms, volunteers still made it out to the beaches and added 12 signatures to the collection. As the weather was poor, not many people came to the beach and thus, less signatures were gathered. Our goal was to outreach and inform beach goers about our cause, but also to collect signatures to present to the government, requesting more funds to be added to support this cause while maintaining positive attitude and language.
At this time, only the Least Terns were present on the beach, as the Piper Plovers have all been hatched and fletched, however it is important to respect the fencing and boundaries year round.
Member that participated includes:
Mingyao Xu (5 hours), Angeline Li (5 hours), and Christopher Zhu (5 hours).
