AYLUS Roslyn Helps Spread Awareness About Birds with the Audubon Center (4th) on June 25, 2023

On Sunday, June 25th, from 9:00to 2:30, Members of the Roslyn AYLUS branch volunteered at West Meadow Beach in Stony Brook, Suffolk County for the Audubon Society, NY.

This foundation is to help endangered birds. We help protect many birds, primarily the Piping Plover, American Oystercatcher, Least Tern, Common Tern, and the Black Skimmer. Members helped set up the tent and encouraged people to sign the pledge promising to keep away from marked or fenced areas where birds are nesting, keep the beach clean by using proper receptacles or carrying out trash, keeping dogs off nesting beaches, and spread the word about edangered and protected birds. The Piping Plovers already hatched their babies, and left. However, other species including Common Terns are still here and need to be protected. Members helped raise awareness about how human activities impact shorebirds, and encouraged beach-goers to share the beach with nesting birds.
