AYLUS Dix Hills worked with Bethpage Park to remove invasive species and to promote native species growth. Volunteers spreader mulch beneath and surrounding native plants, removed plastic remnants in the mulch, and removed invasive species (Mugwort and Garlic Mustard plants).

By spreader mulch beneath and surrounding native plants, members prevented the regrowth of invasive species and weeds. This eliminates to competition of water, thus supporting native species growth. Additionally, because the mulch was made through sustainable means over months of hard work, composting, some plastic happened to be mixed in. Volunteers removed this to ensure a clean environment. Lastly, the invasive species of Mugwort and Garlic Mustard plants were removed in favor of the growth of the native species Cup plant.

AYLUS Dix Hills has the long term initiative of maintaining a sustainable environment in its communities and hopes to benefit the environment to the fullest extent.
