Roslyn Helps Out at a School of CCA of Long Island (15th) on February 26, 2023

On Sunday 2/26 from 1:30 to 5:00 pm, we volunteered as teacher assistants in a Chinese school of CCA.

We were helping out the teachers at the Chinese school by managing and providing help to the young students. We handed out paper, checked and assigned homework, guided the students in making corrections to their homework hand-to-hand, and dealt with all sorts of craziness.

Kindergarteners can be very aggressive and act wildly at times. It is our job as TAs to let them have their fun while still reining them under control and maintain a safe and positive environment. During cultural hour, we helped the calligraphy teacher. I helped her fill two cups with water so the students could wet their brushes and pour some ink in their cups so they can do calligraphy. By assisting the teachers I learned how hard dealing with children is and how active and challenging they can be at times. I have more appreciation for my teachers and learning how they aren’t being paid enough for their troubles.

People who volunteered: Ryan Lin (3.5 hours), Ethan Lin (3.5 hours), Yang Amy Wu (3.5 hours)
