The Long Island Chinese School and the AYLUS Dix Hills Branch collaborate to give kids the best possible education. As teacher assistants, the AYLUS Dix Hills volunteers assisted students who were having difficulty understanding the lesson, ensured that everyone was on task, watched over the students during recess, distributed assignments, made copies of the students’ work, graded their work, and replaced expo markers once they had dried. Later in the evening, volunteers helped the Japanese classes.
Furthermore, AYLUS Dix Hills joined together with the Long Island Chinese School to organize a donation event surrounding Turkey’s devastating earthquake. AYLUS volunteers put together a flier to inform those at the school to donate to the Turkey Earthquake Relief initiative which were sent to many of the friends and family that attended the school.
The recent Turkey Earthquake caused significant damage and disruption to the lives of residents in the affected area, including physical destruction of buildings and infrastructure, displacement of people, loss of livelihoods, and emotional trauma. In the aftermath of such disasters, governments, aid organizations, and volunteers need to provide emergency assistance and support for those in need, including food, water, shelter, medical care, and psychological support.

AYLUS Dix Hills hopes it’s efforts are able to benefit many lives educationally, in addition to those that are suffering and Turkey.

Volunteers: Ru Xue Jiang (4 hours and 30 minutes), Sara Kong (4 hours), Lilian Chen (3 hours), and Ming Chen (3 hours).
