The AYLUS Dix Hills Branch works with the Long Island Alzheimer’s and Dementia, on February 11, 2023. Volunteers were given a tour of the general area and a rundown of the activities they are volunteering at. We were informed of boundaries should set for ourselves whilst volunteering and that our purpose for volunteering would be to help the Alzheimer’s patients get more involved and have more enjoyment in activities the center provides. At Volunteers are also trained on how to handle certain Alzheimer’s patients and given instructions to direct Alzheimer’s patients to staff members in the case that they needed to use the restroom. Volunteers were informed that while participating at Long Island Alzheimer’s and Dementia, we would be helping Alzheimer’s patients with regular recreational activities, in forms such as dancing, singing, and participating. At the end, volunteers were allowed to ask any questions about the organization and activities to the staff.

Volunteers: Ru Xue Jiang (1 hour), Sara Kong (30 minutes), Nadia Khan (30 minutes), and Ming Chen (30 minutes).
