Chapel Hill Branch Volunteers at Booker Creek Trail Forest Restoration Project on Jan 7th, 2023

On January the seventh, four AYLUS chapel hill branch members participated in removing Privet near Booker Creek Trail to kick off volunteering in 2023. This time we worked on the other area of the trail. Members had cut down the Privet, an invasive species, which competes against other plants, resulting in the other plants being destroyed. When these native plants are destroyed, the ecosystem entirely changes, which is bad for the environment. The Privet that was cut down was later brought to a truck to then be turned into sawdust. Through this process, we not only helped the environment from this tree, but also gave another way for these trees to benefit the environment. AYLUS Chapel Hill members hope to continue to help out the environment more next month and make our society better.

The volunteers that participated in this event were: Andrew Zhao (2.5 hrs), Sven Li (2.5 hrs), Eric Sun (3 hrs), and Michelle Lan (2.5 hrs).
