AYLUS Roslyn Helps Out at a School of CCA of Long Island (7th) on December, 4 2022

On Sunday from 1:30-5:00, the AYLUS Roslyn branch assisted teachers at the school of
the Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island.

Six volunteers were split up into different classes to be a teacher’s assistant. We helped perform simple tasks to help our classes including rewarding kids with stickers, making copies for the teachers, taking kids to the bathroom and passing out pieces of paper for homework.Today they started off by reviewing vocabulary, then they also learned new words, and we helped them correct their pronunciation. We checked work done by the children and helped them if they had any trouble. The teachers rely on us to help the students and keep them safe, especially when they need to leave the classroom. We made sure that they don’t run in the hallways, and stay together if they’re in a group. Since Christmas is fast- approaching, we had a Christmas tree origami activity in the culture class today. We helped them fold pieces of colorful paper into triangles leading up to a christmas tree. We also helped them cut slits into the shape to make branches. While the kids were learning how to make festive arts and crafts, we learned with them and were having fun as well.

Members who participated include:

Isabelle Tsui (3.5 hours), Fanxi Xia (3.5 hours), Natalie Tsui (3.5 hours), I-Han Liao (3.5 hours), Serena Wu (3.5 hours), Jolina Wu (3.5 hours).
