Murrieta AYLUS Collects Bottles and Cans from a Local Neighborhood (3rd) and Hosts a Recycling Event to Help Rescued Animals (2nd) (9/10/22)

Reported by: Adora Xiao

On September 10, 2022, Murrieta AYLUS members Hsin Chen(Julie) Lu, Jessica Lu, and Adora Xiao collected bottles and cans from a local neighborhood before taking them to a recycling center.

The members went door to door, waiting in anticipation at each home. At the outset, they didn’t receive many responses, however, the people who did donate were incredibly generous. Members eagerly thanked the donators, moving them into trash bags for transport. They’d loaded up a truckload of bottles and cans from donors, their generosity fueling a trip to the local recycling center to sell the bottles and cans.

Members immediately got to work sorting the plastics, aluminiums, and glass. After countless bins were filled, they moved them over to the station to be weighed. The total amount earned was 36 dollars, which will be donated to a local animal shelter as well as local firefighters.
