AYLUS Bellaire Volunteered at Houston Food Bank on November 27, 2021

The AYLUS Bellaire Branch volunteered at the Houston Food Bank Portwall Warehouse in Houston, Texas on Saturday, November 27, 2021.

The Houston Food Bank is America’s largest food bank in distribution leading hunger relief in 18 southeast Texas counties. The food bank is dedicated to distributing fresh produce, meat, nonperishables, and assistance to thousands of individuals each week through innovative programs and services. The volunteers were tasked with working in the “carousel” where they unpackaged products, sanitized the product packages, and sorted the product into different color-coded bins. These bins were then placed on the carousel, which moved the products to the area where they would be prepared for distribution. In addition, the volunteers were tasked with ensuring that cardboard boxes were ready to be recycled and that the color-coded bins were replenished so that the next shift for the carousel would be ready.

There were twelve volunteers that participated in the volunteer opportunity (3 hours): Joshua Cheng (project leader), Yeong-En Andy Shen, Helena Wang, Miranda Wang, Delbert Nie, Kevin Yang, Eric Li, Andrew Liu, Daniel Chan, Andrew Chen, Elizabeth Zhou, and ZhangHanWen Qin.
