Greater Temecula Valley AYLUS Participates Piano Accompaniment for a Senior Choir Group in July 2021

On July 25th, 2021, Greater Temecula Valley AYLUS (GTVA) leader Ally Negulescu (total 8hrs) volunteered and assisted a Chinese Senior Choir as an accompanist!

Have you ever gotten chills from listening to music? Or even just a rumbling feeling inside your stomach from listening to something beautiful? I know that feeling just so well. As a pianist of almost 10 years, I can say that piano is a very lonely instrument. Unlike other string instruments, there’s not much you can do with other musicians. Usually, you spend your days practicing alone, and you’re not so welcomed in orchestras, since they barely need the piano. To be able to have voices- to have music respond to your own is a magically feeling. Personally, it sends shivers down my spine.

The first time(6/23/2021) I rehearsed with the Choir Director Ms. O was quite different from what I first expected. We only first went over some basic notes about what I have to watch out on when I learn the accompaniment. I only took home a few pencil markings. As I slowly started to practice my part, I realized that this time, I’m playing for a choir group. I’m not going to be by myself when I’m on stage, I’m there to help everyone else. We continued to practice couple of times( 7/3,7/23/2021), and every time it sounded better and better getting everybody ready for the up coming competition in August.

The final time( 7/25/2021), I rehearsed with all the choir members there. The shivers literally bounced up my spine when everyone’s voices all joined in together. It felt surreal having everyone respond back, since we’ve been in quarantine so long. The feeling of receiving music after giving it was incredible.

Now that my part of the accompaniment is finished, I look forward to hearing the good result of our work together. It was a great experience to be part of a group of people who love music.
