Riverside County AYLUS Hosts its First Book Drive from July 7th – July 10th, 2021

On July 7th, RCA started its first book drive for the little free libraries in our community.

The mission of the little free libraries is to inspire readers and expand global access to books. The goal is to empower readers and provide an around-the-clock gateway to reading material within the communities.
This book drive included the creation of donation boxes, the design of a social media flyer, the collection of donations within the community, the sanitizing of the book covers, and the distribution of the books at various libraries in town. Close to 140 books were donated by RCA members and members of the community and distributed during this drive. According to the Free Little Library website, barrier-free access to books is important as nearly 30 million people in the United States cannot read or write above a third-grade level. It is a goal of the little libraries to improve literacy especially in book deserts and areas that are underserved while providing free access to everyone. RCA will continue to support the cause of early literacy through book drives.
