Columbus Branch Participated and Volunteered at Anti-Asian Hate Incidents Event

The number of anti-Asian hate incidents in the U.S. has nearly doubled this year, according to national reports. On Saturday 5/15/2021, across the nation, several rallies were held in compassion and solidarity with the AAPI communities, including here in Dublin, Ohio. AYLUS-Columbus actively participated and volunteered at the event that took place in Coffman Park.
AYLUS members brought posters they designed and prepared to the event, displaying them in the Coffman Park shelter, and on the pedestrian bridge, where they also drew the community-against-hate event logo and other unity-themed chalk arts. They were also in charge of the poster-making table at the event.
Speeches by state and local officials, political leaders, and police department, community members, and youths were a part of the event. AYLUS-Columbus member, Andrea Yu, was among the young speakers, sharing their thoughts and experiences and raising awareness of the verbal and physical violence perpetrated on AAPI community.
AYLUS members also peacefully walked in the Dublin Coffman Park holding anti-hate signs with other event attendance. AYLUS member Kevin Wang stayed to help with event tear down.
AYLUS-Columbus members who participated and volunteered in the event included Joseph Lin, Nicole Lin, Katie Lu, Brenna Li, Catherine Harman, Caroline Xi, Rachel Zhu, Justin Wu, Patrick Wang, Max Wang, Kevin Wang, Max Li, Erica Shen, Andrew Xia, Brian Xia, and Andrea Yu. Members Dustin He and Angelika-Lili Susanto contributed their posters even though their schedules did not allow them to be at the event.
