Irvine Branch Hosts 12th Fall Science Exploratory Class on November 15, 2020

On November 15, 2020, volunteers from the Irvine branch of AYLUS hosted its twelfth science exploratory class for the fall session. We used Zoom to host the lesson, and students, consisting of elementary and middle schoolers, had a great time participating.

We started off with a simulation on making circuits. We showed a couple formations and focused on how the speed of the electron movement changes. We then discussed what electricity is and how it relates to electrons and the nuclei of atoms. We went over what conductance and resistance were, their mathematical relationship, and why certain materials are good at conducting while others are good at resisting. We then talked about how a circuit works, and how a battery creates an electric field to move charges. We also went over what voltage, current, and resistance is. We then discussed the difference between series and parallel circuits. We then gave a few examples and how the circuit components and values relate to each other in each type of circuit.

Volunteers: Andy Chen (1.5 hrs), Aditya Verma (1.5 hrs), Brian Song (1 hr)
