Irvine Branch Hosts 3rd Fall Science Exploratory Class on September 13, 2020

On September 13, 2020, volunteers from the Irvine branch of AYLUS hosted its third science exploratory class for the fall session. We used Zoom to host the lesson, and students, consisting of elementary and middle schoolers, had a great time participating.

For the third lesson, we went over simple machines and mechanical advantage. We showed a PHET simulation with levers, and some kids seemed to already know about them. Afterwards, when we talked about mechanical advantage and torque, the kids started understanding more when actual machines were being explained to them. We recapped the 6 simple machines and asked the kids to give examples for each one, then explaining how each object uses the machines to function properly. The kids seemed to understand very well. Great success!
