From June 27 to Jun 29, 2018, the East Cobb Branch of AYLUS packed lunch at Bella Grand Apartments, Dwell Apartments, and Garden Terrace Apartments near south Marietta. Members spent 2 hours each day. The goal of this program, coordinated by the YMCA, was to provide healthy lunches for local students during the summer. The volunteers packed and served lunches and then engaged in fun activities with the kids.
Members set up a table with celery, broccoli, ranch, apple sauce, PB&J sandwiches, and chocolate milk. Members formed a line, and each student placed his or her item into the bag. The children were eager to receive a healthy meal, and lined up for their bag.
Members served more than 30 healthy lunches to kids and family members, greatly benefiting Marietta through community service and community bonding.
On June 28, three members went to Dwell Apartments. Unfortunately, heavy rains soon hit after they started to pack the lunch, but the members still managed to give out around 20 lunches.
On June 29, five members went to Garden Terrace Apartments. (A new location) There they served lunches even though many people still did not know of the service. They played tag with the children to help encourage more people to come later. About 15 meals where served and the remaining meals were given to a member of the community who will help to distribute to other children.
