Fort Bend TX Branch: Houston Turkey Trot, A Movement to Build Better Lives

A turkey trot is a footrace that is held on or around Thanksgiving Day in the United States. The city of Houston holds the turkey trots in order to benefit local charities. The Houston Turkey Trot is the second largest foot race in Houston and has been a family tradition for nearly 25 years. The event supports Neighborhood Centers– the largest community development organization in Texas. Neighborhood Centers has been around for more than a century with a mission of building strong communities by investing in the strengths of people. We connect hardworking families to opportunities by linking them to education, job training, economic support such as free tax preparation and business development. We also have one of the only dementia-specific day centers for seniors. This holistic approach is how we keep Houston a place of opportunity.

By supporting the Houston Turkey Trot, we will impact more than 160,000 seniors and children that Neighborhood Centers serves. AYLUS Fort Bend Branch members proudly volunteered for Houston Turkey Trot on Nov. 23th, 2016 for more than 5 hours. It takes 500 volunteers to pull this off. We make the event run smoothly for the more than 15,000 people who participate. Being a part of something bigger, we believe our efforts fuel a movement. Along with others in Houston committed for good, we all have the power to affect real change—for now. For the Future.

The members who participated in the Turkey Trot volunteer work are: Eric Wu, Kevin Jin, David Lin, Gavin Wang, David Guan, Andrew Hsiung, Jason Ren and Jason Wu.
