AYLUS Great Neck Branch Volunteered at Firefighter Park on 4/19/2024

On April 19, 2024, the Aylus Great Neck branch hosted its weekly Friday Inclusive Sports Day activity at the Firefighter Park to encourage interpersonal and outdoor activities for the community kids, especially for those kids with special needs.
Our volunteers, including Zoe Xia, Cody Ngo, Taisheng Wu,Andrew Qian, and Derek Gao, Austin Wang arrived at the Firefighter Park at 5 pm. We first played soccer with a special needs kid and after the child went home, we played more soccer with a group of young kids from around the park. Over hour flew by, both the volunteers and the kids had a great time.

By participating in team sports like soccer, kids gain valuable team spirit and a healthy lifestyle. As cited by Edutopia, “team sports are said to bolster the five C’s: competence, confidence, connections, character, and caring. At the heart of this is self-esteem – an increased sense of self because of better social interactions, stronger relationships, and higher academic performance.” There’s no doubt that both the volunteers and the kids have benefited a lot from our community sports program.
