Lake Washington Branch Completes Neighbourhood Food Drive, Donates 180 Pounds of Canned Goods to Food Lifeline on 8/10/20

On August 7th, 2020, the Lake Washington Branch of AYLUS conducted a neighbourhood food drive, collecting nearly 200 pounds worth of canned goods and bottled water. On August 10th, two founding members of the branch delivered the canned goods to Food Lifeline, who will help distribute food to more than 300 food banks, shelters, and meal programs across Western Washington.

With the economic hardship caused by the pandemic, the number of food-insecure people in Washington State has doubled to 1.6 million people with a high likelihood that it could reach more than 2 million people before the crisis begins to subside. After seeing this situation impact our local community, especially after seeing multiple homeless children and young adults, we decided to help.  Many people in our area have stockpiles of unused canned goods, so we conducted a small neighbourhood food drive to help those in need.

Conducting this food drive has also given us invaluable experience in helping the needy and food-insecure. This will allow us to scale up our operations in the future.
