On Sunday, April 19th, seven volunteers from the Alyus Therapeutic Skating Program met at the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink. From 2:15 to 3:15 p.m., each volunteer paired up with a young skater to provide one-on-one help and guidance.
The main goal was to make sure every child felt safe and happy while trying out new moves on the ice. The volunteers help and encourage the skaters feel more brave. By the end of the hour, the children were much more confident in their skills and their balancing.
It was a wonderful afternoon for everyone. This week we had chance to focus on practice moves previously learned and also teach new moves. Both the volunteers and the skaters enjoyed their time together and felt thankful to be part of such a friendly event.
