AYLUS Roslyn helps out at a School of CCA of Long Island (85) on October 5th, 2025

On October 5th, 2025, the volunteers of the AYLUS Roslyn branch took part in the Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. as teaching assistants. On this day, volunteers contributed to the community by providing support to students and parents through various activities.

To start the day off, the TAs all helped the teachers prepare activities for the students and assisted the students if they had any questions, as usual. These efforts included answering questions, collecting papers, and setting up activities for the kids. No less, TAs also took pride in their duty to be responsible for the students, taking them to the bathroom when requested or walking them to get water.

On this particular day, we also celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival. Outside of completing activities centered around the Mid Autumn Festival in the classroom, students were all instructed to line up class by class to receive a handmade moon cake—that volunteer parents and staff were making collaboratively on the spot—and a small biscuit. Following this, all students attending CCALI were given a specific shirt they had to wear. Then, they were instructed to take a class photo and a group photo outside with everyone, marking a milestone in their hard work and participation in learning Chinese with CCALI.

In closing, being a TA not only teaches teenagers to be responsible in order to manage a class, but also to work collaboratively with others for success in a larger group. Not only that, as a TA, one must be patient and learn not to take frustration to heart,— especially because the students are all young children— while creating a comfortable and engaging environment to facilitate growth from the students.
