AYLUS Great Neck Branch Tutoring at Station Library 58th (10/7/25)

On October 7th, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, the tutoring space at 58th buzzed with quiet purpose. A large group of high-achieving high school students gathered, and five volunteers—Brian Zhang, Summer Lu, Yizhen Li, Baiyu Chen, and Emma Ding—turned the hour into a meaningful blend of learning and care.

Brian Zhang focused on two younger girls, breaking down English basics and math homework with patience. He didn’t just hand them answers; he made sure they understood each step, turning confusion into confidence. Across the room, Summer Lu helped a junior high boy prep for an exam: she reviewed his tricky topics, guided him through practice exercises, and listened closely to his stumbles, rephrasing explanations until he got it. By the end, his hesitation melted into self-assurance.

Yizhen Li and Baiyu Chen teamed up to tutor two girls in U.S. History. Instead of lecturing, they turned review into conversation, asking the girls to share what they remembered, filling gaps gently, and linking historical events to relatable stories. The once-quiet girls began asking questions, their curiosity sparked by the pair’s enthusiasm.

Emma Ding kept everything on track. She checked in with volunteers, helped students with last-minute questions, and maintained the calm, focused atmosphere—critical for such a large group. Her behind-the-scenes work let the other volunteers pour their energy into tutoring.

As the hour ended, students thanked their tutors, and volunteers left with tired but happy smiles. This night wasn’t just about academics; it was about care. The quiet focus, the small wins of understanding, and the volunteers’ dedication made it a truly meaningful evening.
