On August 17, from 11:00 to 12:30, members of the AYLUS Roslyn Branch visited the CP Nassau Bayville Care Center. In addition to our usual volunteering, we brought live flute and piano performances to share with the residents.
The program included Trois Valses Oubliées No.1, Italian Polka, Vier Impromptus Op. 142, and Moon River. Each piece had its own character, from the lively rhythm of Italian Polka to the lyrical flow of Moon River. Residents followed along attentively, and some quietly moved in time with the music.
The most memorable moment came during Moon River. As soon as the familiar melody began, many residents started singing with us. Their voices blended with the instruments, and the atmosphere shifted from a recital into a group performance. Smiles appeared, hands clapped softly, and several residents swayed to the tune. The shared music created a clear sense of participation and connection.
For our branch, the concert was a chance to see how music can create real engagement. Rather than simply providing entertainment, it invited residents to take part in the experience. By the end of the visit, it was clear that the performances had left a strong impression, and the residents expressed their gratitude directly to our volunteers.
