On June 17th, AYLUS Houston officially launched its summer school for special needs. This program provides educational opportunities for individuals with disabilities focused on essential life skills, enriched by activities such as handbell and origami lessons. The program runs weekly from Tuesday to Thursday, with volunteer shifts lasting 1 hour (2 hours for morning/afternoon sessions; 4 hours for full-day commitments).
Over recent weeks, our volunteers have engaged participants in diverse activities. A typical day includes morning hand exercises and life skill lessons, followed by afternoon arts and crafts or games. Through these interactions, volunteers developed meaningful connections with students while honing their own leadership and teaching abilities, with many even designing and leading lessons in their areas of interest.
We are proud of our volunteers for their hard work and commitment. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Light and Salt Association for their partnership in establishing this program in the Katy area. We also thank associated teachers for their constant dedication to our mission. AYLUS Houston remains steadfast in its mission to uplift our community and empower those we serve.
