On Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., the AYLUS Great Neck Branch spent a rewarding afternoon volunteering at Kings Point Park. It had rained earlier in the morning, and the ground was still a little damp. Despite the humid weather, our volunteer group gathered with great enthusiasm, ready to work together on the park’s maintenance.
We worked along the park’s paths, using rakes, shovels, and other tools to level the soil and improve drainage. The softened soil made it easier for us to remove uneven spots and keep the trail smooth and safe. While we were raking and leveling the trails, we noticed many earthworms coming up to the surface from the damp soil. The volunteers were very careful and tried not to harm them, gently working around the little creatures as much as possible. Everyone stayed focused and worked hard to make sure the paths were clean and clear.
As we worked, it made us proud to see people jogging and walking along the trail, knowing they could exercise safely because of our efforts. Through the dedication of volunteers, the park’s trails became safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable for people to run or walk. By the end of the service, the once rough ground had been smoothed out. We know that our combined efforts will have a lasting impact. It was a meaningful experience that not only helped improve the park but also strengthened our sense of community service.
