On Sunday, June 1 2025, the Roslyn Branch of AYLUS volunteered at Game On for Autism, an
event sponsored by Camp Kehilla, a summer camp for neurodivergent kids of all ages. All
proceeds from this flag football game will be used to fund a new obstacle course at the camp.
Our task was to hand out refreshments to the guests. We interacted with a wide variety of
people, and made sure that customers exchanged their tickets they purchased for the food. In
addition, we aided in cleaning after the event ended, which included breaking down tables,
picking up trash, and putting away equipment. We were able to hand out nearly 20 boxes worth
of pizza to the spectators.
One challenge we faced was making sure that everyone handed in a ticket. Especially when we
were busy, some people would take a water or a slice of pizza without us realizing that they did
not give a ticket. However, for the most part, we made sure that everyone had a ticket before
giving them any sort of refreshment.
It was a great day to have a game, especially in a place as beautiful as the Park at East Hills.
This experience taught us that neurodivergent kids, despite having additional sensory struggles,
were just as capable of having a great time as neurotypical kids did. We hope to be able to
attend and help out at more events like these in the future.
