AYLUS Great Neck Branch Volunteered at The Arboretum State Park on 7/27/2024(37th)

On Saturday, July 27th 2024, from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm, the AYLUS Great Neck Branch volunteered at The Arboretum State Park. Multiple historic plant species are preserved there for people to come to visit and view. We volunteered to pull out weeds and remove invasive species such as the English ivy. Our main goal was to remove as much English ivy as possible from our assigned area.

After all the volunteers arrived, we started to quickly. First, the volunteers identified the English ivy, which was our main removal target this time. Then the volunteers began to pull out the English ivy one by one and piled it aside. Finally, they used large buckets to load the English ivy onto the truck and took it away.

Invasive species destroy the biodiversity in the environment. If they are not removed in time and allowed to reproduce smoothly, they will not only deprive other plant species of their ability to survive, but will also lead to a decrease in biodiversity and even cause irreversible negative impacts on the biosphere of the area. According to this saying, this was a very important and meaningful event. We volunteers should protect the natural environment from being invaded by species. We enjoyed doing this and hope that we can do everything we could.
