On April 27th, 2024, Murrieta AYLUS member lent a hand to the Habitat for Humanity organization by participating in the Menifee Better Together, a yearly activity organized by the City of Menifee to promote community beautification and celebrate Earth Day. There were multiple projects available for volunteers to choose from, like the Flower Pot Project, Historical Monuments Project, and Menifee Rural Center Cleanup. Last year, the Murrieta AYLUS Branch assisted with Garden Revitalization. This year, they were assigned to Senior Home Revitalization due to their experience in helping with the “A Brush with Kindness” Project.
Upon arriving, each member signed a waiver before checking in at their assigned station. Then, they picked up a complimentary breakfast before finding a seat. After the mayor of Menifee and several other people gave speeches expressing their appreciation and encouragement to the volunteers who showed up, everyone made their way to their respective work areas. The volunteers had less time than usual to paint the house, so they immediately got to work when they arrived. Each member picked up a bucket of paint, a roller, and a brush and found their own section of the house to work on. The members finished painting the base of the house before they knew it and went around doing Quality Check, filling in spots that weren’t covered with paint. Seeing how the members had finished early, the supervisor assigned them the job of touching up on the house trims. The members meticulously painted the window trims and door frames, careful to avoid touching the gray paint still wet on the house’s base. Soon, the members finished and it was time for all volunteers to head back. The members helped clean up, gathering buckets of paint and the tarps laid around the house. When they were finished, the volunteers went back to the meet-up spot where a complementary lunch was prepared for the volunteers. The members had a much needed break and enjoyed their lunch before waving goodbye to everyone.
