AYLUS Roslyn Volunteers at Cerebal Palsy Association of Nassau County’s Group Home (10th) on 4/06/24

On Saturday, 6 April 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the Roslyn Branch of Aylus volunteered at Chapman house which is run by the Cerebral palsy Association of Nassau County (CP Nassau) and is dedicated to assisting people with cerebral palsy to achieve their highest level of independency.

During our time volunteering, we came up with fun and inclusive activities that all residents would be able to participate in, like doing crafts and playing games. We decided to start with crafts, where all residents participated in painting birdhouses and pictures. In order to achieve the greatest amount of success, the volunteers helped set up and helped the residents with the paint. While the crafts were drying, we gathered to play giant connect four and bingo. After a few rounds of the games, everyone was able to enjoy a snack before continuing to play more games.

Throughout the hours of different activities, we learned how to make every resident included despite some not wanting to participate in a particular activity. Different residents in the house had required different aids like one who was unable to see properly, required more hand on hand assistance. Overall, the residents and volunteers all had a fun time. The ability to help others requires patience and understanding, a lesson that can be used in every aspect of life. We are so lucky to be able to volunteer at CP Nassau and learn valuable lessons about helping others.
