AYLUS Roslyn Provides Food to Local Families Through NOSH Delivery! Food Pantry (1st) on April 6, 2024

On April 6, 2024, the Roslyn Branch participated in the NOSH Delivers! food pantry from 8:15 am to 12:15 pm. NOSH delivers! was founded in March of 2020 to bring food to local families impacted by the pandemic. Three years later, our volunteers provide food to many of these same families as they continue to struggle with food insecurity. They deliver weekly NOSH bags, filled with nutritious groceries, to hundreds of families. Also, many families now come to the NOSH food Pantry to pick up their own groceries.

After we arrived, Courtney, the founder of NOSH, instructed us on what to do. First, we started by stacking the shelves with canned and packaged food. After, we cut the egg cartons in half so we could have enough for everyone. When we made sure everything was ready, we opened up and people started coming in. Consumers could choose from a variety of meat, eggs, milk, pasta, beans, bread, vegetables, fruits, drinks, cereal, and even snacks. We helped them pick out the foods they needed.

At first, there weren’t a lot of people coming in. We thought it might be the bad weather, which was chilly and windy. Therefore, we put up a banner to show that we were open. As the weather became warmer, more people began to come in. When they started choosing the food, we let them know that they could only take a certain amount of that type of food because there needed to be enough for everyone.

Every time a customer left, we felt very happy that we were able to help their family who didn’t have sufficient food for the weekend. The pandemic changed people’s lives in many ways, and the impact is still there. We hope that we can provide more food for the people in need.
