On April 15, 2023, AYLUS Bellaire Volunteers went to ED White Elementary school to tutor the 3rd-5th-grade students.

ED White Elementary is located in a multicultural neighborhood. They have a long-term program that helps students from disadvantaged families with Math or Reading. AYLUS volunteers were assigned to different students and helped them with math and reading. With the Texas STAAR test coming up, volunteers guided the students through math review workbooks that covered topics ranging from basic arithmetic to geometry. Once the instructional curriculum was completed, volunteers helped students go through the online activities assigned by their teacher to further their development in English and language arts.

The volunteers taught them how to find a faster way to solve math problems and remember words. The students improved their skills by practicing solving problems and reviewing their mistakes for math and playing word games to improve their reading skills.

After tutoring the main curriculum to students, volunteers organized simple educational games from the puzzles provided by the schools to help nurture a knowledgeable and interactive environment. The volunteers taught students math such as long division, multiplication, and subtraction as well as reading. The volunteers were there from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
