For a few weeks in June (and a few days in July), an Albany Branch member continued to transcribe for the Smithsonian Transcription Center. This event helps to “make historical documents and biodiversity data more accessible.” This is a very viable activity as it is completely digital and can be done at the volunteers’ convenience. Their “efforts to transcribe the Smithsonian’s historic collections helps to increase access and understanding of our heritage, our neighbors, and our world.” She loves transcribing for this activity because “it was great being able to see directly into history, and help make it more accessible to others”. She was able to transcribe military and communication documents.
